The Provincial Marine began selling "Keep History Alive" Bricks back in
2000, for a scenic brick walkway in Amherstburg's Navy Yard Park along the
Detroit River. The bricks are $60.00 each; or $50.00 each, if you buy more
than one brick. The bricks are engraved to remember people. They can
commemorate birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, family names, business
names, or if you want to remember someone who has passed away. To date, we
have been very successful, having sold over 700 bricks. In our
partnership with the Town of Amherstburg, the Public Works department
installs these bricks at least 2 times a year. On Heritage weekend,
usually the first weekend of August, we celebrate the names on these
engraved bricks with a ceremony at the brick site where we acknowledge the
people who have their names on a brick. This ceremony also includes the
Royal Canadian Legion Colour party, dignitaries, poets, singers, and is
followed by a reception and other entertainment.
